Marijeta for GlobalTalent24 Magazine: “When I Arrived in Germany, I Knew One Thing – I Could Not Give Up”

Looking back today, she rarely talks about the difficulties. Instead, she speaks about the importance of determination, patience, and believing in your own decisions when starting a new life in another country.

Building a New Life, One Step at a Time

“The beginning was not easy. I had to learn the language, complete the recognition of my nursing qualifications, and adapt to a completely different way of life. But giving up was never an option,” Marijeta says.

Today, eight years later, she works as a registered nurse in a hospital. To her, this is much more than a job. It is proof that commitment, discipline, and persistence are eventually rewarded.

She has made her home in the tri-border region where Germany, Switzerland, and France meet. This region is especially beautiful and diverse: different cultures, people, and ways of life come together and shape everyday life. She appreciates this diversity as much as the high quality of life. At the same time, living so close to Switzerland has made her think about the next step in her career.

“Many of my colleagues have moved to Switzerland, and they often share their experiences with me. Salaries are significantly higher, although the cost of living is higher as well. Still, when everything is added up at the end of the month, the financial balance is usually much better. That is why I am seriously considering making that move myself one day.”

Outside of work, Marijeta enjoys travelling whenever she can. Discovering new countries and cultures gives her fresh energy and reminds her to stay open to change and new opportunities.

At the end of our conversation, we asked Marijeta what advice she would give to people who are thinking about moving to Germany or another European country.

“Don't make decisions without proper information. Learn as much as you can, talk to people who have already gone through the process, and prepare yourself well. It makes every new beginning much easier.”
